We provide our students with the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreation activities and to enhance their ability with independent skiing, with one on one support and adaptive equipment as needed. We always focus on their abilities, not their disabilities.
Central Maine Adaptive Sports is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization committed to offering adaptive ski lessons to people of all ages, with any disability, physical, mental and/or behavioral.
Our staff is made up entirely of volunteers dedicated to promoting Safety, Fitness and Fun! We match students with coaches who work one on one with each other in acquiring new skills, staying active and gaining self-confidence through regular participation.
Benefits To Students
Our students, averaging about 100 per week during the ski season, benefit from the outdoor environment and the excitement of skiing, but more importantly, from the gains they make in motor control, strength, balance and coordination. Learning to ski, even when tethered to a coach, involves sensory processing, attention and problem solving, requiring self-control and motivation. Important life skills such as trust, commitment and responsibility are also gained or improved upon in the process of learning to ski. Our students, by getting on the slopes and participating in skiing, are presented with a rather unique and fun way to achieve personal growth and overcome limitations.
Our program is located at Lost Valley Ski Resort, 200 Lost Valley Rd located in Auburn, Maine.
